This survey is sponsored by the Cape Cod Commission, which oversees planning and development for Barnstable County (Cape Cod). Every five years the Commission prepares a Regional Policy Plan to guide development in the county, aiming to balance population growth and economic development with protection of the Cape's natural resources and unique community character. In order to produce a plan that meets the needs and aspirations of Cape Cod residents, the Commission has asked CSR to conduct a survey of its residents to know their views about important issues. Of particular interest to the Commission is information about what were residents' priorities in choosing to live on the Cape, what problems they see and anticipate in their town and on the Cape, how the Cape should manage development, and what the priorities/tradeoffs are between development and preservation and ecology . CSR conducted a similar residents' survey for the Commission in 1995.
This is a mail study sent to 1000 residents that follows standard protocol for mail surveys, including a reminder postcard and a second questionnaire to non-respondents. CSR analyzed the data and reported the findings to the Commission.
